A Million Pennies Mmakes a Miracle
February 7, 2008

Community schools are excited to be involved with a special project for The Miracle League of Joliet, a non-profit organization that enables children with disabilities to play baseball on a rubberized synthetic turf field.

On Feb. 4, with Star 96.7 sponsorship and the involvement of Joliet Junior’s Women Club “A Millions Pennies” fundraiser began in over 15 community schools.

Joliet Junior Women’s Club have placed containers, courtesy of Water Accessories Outlet, Joliet, IL, in the participating schools. The concept is to fill them with a million pennies (of course, other denominations of monies will be accepted). First Midwest Bank of Joliet will count coins. Some schools are coming up with some creative ways to fill the jugs and many are involving their student councils and other organizations in the schools to make this a fun experience.

This is a great way to have our youth learn about some very special children and their needs and to get involved in community service at a young age.

The Million Pennies Campaign will run through Mar. 14. Besides having schools participate in this fundraiser, Star 96.7 will also be doing live remotes at area businesses promoting the Million Pennies Campaign for The Miracle League of Joliet. Coins are also being collected at Next Media, at 2410 Caton Farm Rd.

The Miracle League of Joliet’s season opener will be Saturday, May 17, 2008. If you would like more information about the Million Pennies Campaign and how you can donate call 815 545-3633. More information about the league can be found at www.miracleleagueofjoliet.com or by calling 815-258-3799.
